Kittie in Concert: Opera House, Toronto

I had the pleasure of photographing one of my favourite Metal bands as they played a show at the Opera House in Toronto on March 3rd, 2010 (yeah, it’s taken me a while to post these). Kittie is a London Ontario-based Heavy Metal/Alt Metal band formed in 1996 with 5 studio albums under their belts and a new one currently in the works.
This was my first time seeing them live and they put on a fantastic show. The irony of their name is quite apparent once you’re confronted with their face-melting sound and this is further emphasized by their stage setup consisting of hot pink microphones and pink be-hearted drum kit with a teddy bear in the rack! Here’s the lead singer Morgan Lander shredding away during a solo:
…and then you get fun moments like this and you realize that it’s not all about guttural screams, killer riffs and chest-pounding double bass, but four girls just having a blast rocking out together:

Ivy Vujic on bass pulling a classic metal pose:
♫ Disguised behind the lies,
Do you not realize?
This is heartless,
This is CUT THROAT! ♫
Tara McLeod on lead guitar:
A fun moment with Tara and Ivy:
Mercedes and her signature drum kit. Neil Peart’s may have more pieces, but does it have hearts and a teddy bear? I don’t think so.
Here’s a slideshow of some more photos from the show: Slideshow
