I'm off to Italy!

Hey everyone,

I just want to let you all know that I'll be leaving for a wedding in Italy on Tuesday August 2nd and will be returning in the evening of the 7th. If you need to get ahold of me, please leave me an email and I'll get back to you as soon as I return to Canada.

It's going to be a beautiful 2-day wedding on Lake Como - regarded by some as the most beautiful place in the world! You know that place in Star Wars Episode 2 on the water surrounded by the mountains where Anakin and the Princess get married?...that place. I'm a bit excited!

Ciao,

Michael

Kristina & Jason Engagement Session

Oops, I've fallen a bit behind on my blog entries. What a fun evening we had on the 7th in Port Perry for Kristina & Jason's engagement session and the weather was just perfect. They looked so great together - we're going to get some amazing photos at their wedding in September!

Here's a great unscripted moment captured as they finished their ice cream cones:

I love doing engagement sessions in small towns. There are so many great photo opportunities in these quaint little villages:

I wish we could have 2 hours in the evening of every wedding for photos of just the couple. The light is so magical at this time of day...but you of course need time to eat and party at your wedding so we make the best of the light that's available. I'm open to shooting a quick couple's session during the reception around sunset though - something to keep in mind. :)

Katrina & Dominic

Katrina & Dominic hosted a beautiful Canada wedding in Newmarket last weekend. I wasn't sure what to expect when they said the reception was going to be in a greenhouse, but it turned out to be one of the most elegant venues I've ever photographed. Anyway, on to the pictures...

Katrina picked out an elegant dress which is sure to remain timeless when she looks back at her photos in years to come:

I like the little story behind this one. You can't really tell from the picture, but that's two of the bridesmaids in the background trying to untangle Katrina's necklace while she puts on her earings infront of the mirror.

Another mirror shot of some final hair touchups.

No one ever wears the veil down during the ceremony anymore and it's a shame. There's something so elegant and graceful about a bride behind a veil and I usually try to capture at least a couple images with the veil before we leave the prep location.

It's rare that we ever get floor-to-ceiling windows large enough for this shot, but that's where Photoshop comes in to remove the distracting elements such as the bed, window frame, dresser, etc. ;)

Here's a different spin on the bridal party shot. It's was a bit tricky with 6 girls and 3 guys but I think this one works.

Although it was a bit toasty in there, the greenhouse location for the ceremony was breathtaking. Flowers and vines all around made for a cozy and romantic setting for the nuptials.

Just a little detail photo with a bit of a romantic spin on the standard ring shot.

The happy couple:

The decorations and floral arrangements were gorgeous:

This is why I love to stay and photograph the speeches:

And what would a July 1st wedding be without fireworks (of the black powder variety)?

Their first dance under the "stars". I was digging those funky lamps in the ceiling too:

Overall it was another beautiful, fun and smooth-running wedding celebration. Have a great time on your honeymoon you two!
